【Beginning】
Morris was granted power by Woodbury, and became a living teddy bear. It could not wait to let Barry know about it. But as Morris was about to open the door, it heard sound of footsteps — Barry’s mother was coming to tidy the room. Morris immediately sat on the floor, and refrained from moving, pretending to be an ordinary cuddle toy.
- Morris: ‘Maybe I should just wait for Barry to come home.’
Dusk was falling when Barry returned. He happily waved the hazelnut in his hand.
- Barry: Morris, guess where I’ve been today.
- Morris: The park in front of the library? You said hazel trees are only present there.
- Barry: Hm? Morris? No...How could it be?
- Morris: Barry...?
- Barry: Morris! You’re moving! And talking too? That’s incredible!
Filled with surprise, Barry had numerous thoughts to share with Morris. But the teddy had already known all of them, because Barry had been talking to it every day, even when it was still an inanimate toy. That night, Barry and Morris chat with each other, and played baseball together.
【Before Battles】
- Barry: Here comes my spinning pitch!
- Morris: Haha. This time, I’m really going to catch it.
【After Battles】
- Barry’s Mother: Barry! You’re still up?!
- Barry: Oh no. It’s mum!
【End】
Barry’s mother yelled from outside the door; Morris made a silent gesture at Barry, before pretending again to be a mere toy.
- Barry: Mum, I’m going to sleep. You don’t need to come in!
When Barry’s mother left, he asked Morris why they could not let her know it can move. Morris had two intentions: first, it deemed Barry its only friend, so it wanted to move only in front of him; and second, Morris did not want to reveal itself to the others. It could not imagine what people would do to a moving teddy bear; it could no way be “just throw it away”. Therefore, Morris lied:
- Morris: Barry, you have to know that this is a weak magic. I can only move and talk when there are only the two of us.
- Morris: You can’t tell anyone about me, not even your mum and dad. If you do...
- Morris: This magic will vanish, and I will not be able to move and talk anymore.
- Barry: Mm! I won’t tell anyone!
