【Before Battles】
In the past, when Tyr was still a young magistrate.
【Enemy Dialog】
He would sometimes need to punish the offenders himself.
【End】
‘It is stupidity, if the victim shows understanding for the malefactor; it is arrogance, if the malefactor asks the victim for understanding.’ Tyr carved the words on a stone, so as to show the law to everyone. ‘Weighing and judging, the magistrate uses punishment to establish the rules.’ He swept away the chippings, ready to carve another sentence. But then he noticed a little head peeking outside the door. He put down the tools and asked gently,
- Tyr: What’s the matter, Hel?
The little girl walked into the room timidly, limping. Tyr held her up with his strong arms.
- Tyr: What’s up? Did someone pick on you?
- Little Girl: Put me down! I’ve grown up already!
Tyr smiled and put her on a chair, when Loki came to the door. Hel hid herself behind Tyr. Loki smiled to Tyr wryly, and said to Hel,
- Loki: Be a good girl. Come back to Daddy.
- Loki: Don’t disturb the magistrate while he is working.
- Little Girl: Papa lies! He said I can keep Lily as a pet!
- Tyr: Lily?
- Loki: Goat, a baby goat.
Loki walked into the room.
- Loki: I’ve just turned the goat in.
- Loki: But Hel keeps complaining as she wants to get it back.
- Tyr: Does it have to be that goat?
Tyr asked as he lowered his head. Hel nodded tearfully.
- Tyr: OK. As the magistrate, I’ll write out a contract for you.
- Tyr: To postpone your payment for half a year.
- Tyr: Then you can hand over something else at that time.
Hel burst into a radiant smile. She hugged Tyr round his waist and then walked out of the house, limping.
- Loki: Don’t walk too fast!
Loki shouted to the outside and walked towards Tyr.
- Loki: The job’s done.
- Tyr: How are they?
- Loki: With the goat that you have given them,
- Loki: even though they cannot work,
- Loki: they should be able to survive for another six months.
- Tyr: No, not me. It’s the goat that ‘you’ have given.
Tyr corrected Loki’s words. In that judgment, Tyr had no choice but to hurt the leg of the offender. As a magistrate, he could not show favoritism for anybody, so he could only offer them help secretly.
- Tyr: Thank you.
- Loki: You’ve returned the favor with the little goat.
Loki nodded and left. It was not until Tyr returned to his seat to work that he questioned why Loki, a clever man, would have handed over the goat his daughter had wanted so much. As someone who loves his daughter more than life itself, he would not have committed this mistake. Tyr shook his head and sighed, dear me... I owe him a favor again...
